Rev. Raymond Mallett, OFM Conv.
Notes from the Clergy
A special thanks goes to John Elway’s Manhattan Beach Toyota and to Al Wise for their help in the purchase of a 2008 Prius for Fr. Lazaro. Fr. Lazaro was driving a 2003 Ford Focus. This served us well but the repair bills were getting larger and larger. Al Wise was able to arrange a very good deal on the Prius. I told him that I’d put something in our bulletin acknowledging his help and the help of the Dealership with our purchase. The Prius is a hybrid car so we are greening the cars that we drive as we green the parish with solar panels.
I hope you will join us for our Mariachi Night. This is our third year for this event. Monumental de America is contracted for the evening. You may know them from the La Fonda Restaurant in LA. Carne Asada and other Mexican food will be served. Margaritas and other beverages will be available. It should be a fun evening in the parking lot of OLG.
We are getting closer to the beginning of our school year for both our OLG School and Religious Education. We have room in our Catholic School for your son or daughter. Our Religious Education classes both for Communion and Confirmation are filling to capacity. It is important to register now while we have room.
Thanks for your support of our Friary project. We are still entering the names of donors for this project into the book which will be sealed in the floor with the Relics (St. Francis, St. Anthony & St. Joseph of Cupertino). We have about $29,688.13 yet to raise for this project. Just mark an envelope Building Fund to help us with this project. Thank You!!

OLG School Updates
Our Lady of Guadalupe School will open the 2010-2011 school year on Wednesday, September 8th. There are still some openings for classes. If you are interested in enrolling your child please call Mrs. Hunt in the school office at (310) 372-7486.
Here are some reasons to choose OLG Catholic School from the parents of our students:
Spiritual and moral principles at home are reinforced throughout the day at OLG
Long term commitment to each student from Kindergarten to 8th grade
Excellent academic environment: students are well prepared for successful high school and college careers. OLG graduates have been valedictorians at various high schools, and many OLG students are accepted with honors at local high schools.
Accreditation from the Western Association of Schools & Colleges and the Western Catholic Educational Association.
Extremely safe and secure environment: every student is treated with respect and dignity.
Thank you, Manhattan Beach Toyota!

RCIA: The Way to Become Catholic
Sunday, 22 August 2010 00:00
RCIA Team
Ministry News
Adults approach the church for a variety of reasons and bring with them a personal history and richness of life experiences. The OLG RCIA Team responds with both information about the church and a formational process that introduces the individual to the message of Jesus, prayer, community, and service to others. The process invites participants to embark on a journey. There are stages on the way, crossroads, and crisis, rest stops, guides and companions who lead the way to the final destination. These companions are team members and sponsors, people from the parish who want to share their faith and walk with others as they discover what it means to be Catholic.
We meet 3 to 4 nights a month, Wednesdays from 7:00PM to 8:30PM in the conference room, inside the parish hall, starting September 15th. Everyone is welcome to join. For more information, please call Livier at the parish office (310) 372-7077 ext. 23 or simply ask one of the RCIA Team members: Dn. Scott Palmer, Br. John Fleming, Mike and/or Eileen Sisson, Jonathan Riddick, or Bob Ingino.
Hope to see you on Wednesday, September 15, 2010!

Report inappropriate or illegal content on the Internet

Parish Office
Parish Announcements
Did you know? One of the main reasons that children do not report the inappropriate content they find online is fear of punishment from parents. If you let them know that it is not their fault if they come across an inappropriate site, they will be more willing to come to you when it happens. If your children ever show you a site that contains illegal behavior, such as pornographic images of children, contact your Internet Service Provider and the CyberTipline at: www.cybertipline.com. For particular help, you may call the Archdiocese Assistance Ministry Office at (213) 637-7650.

A member of our former Youth Ministry Team and student of OLG School, Specialist Sean Ambriz of the 759th Military Police Battalion was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Valor on May 26th at the end of tour ceremony after a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Congratulations and thanks to Sean and all our service men and women!
On a sadder note, a graduate of our School Staff Sergeant Kyle Warren and a fellow soldier of the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group was killed on July 29th in Afghanistan while on a combat reconnaissance patrol when an improvised explosive device hit their vehicle. Kyle was a medic who earned his Green Beret in 2007. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, NATO Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal posthumously. Please include Kyle Warren and his family in your prayers.
