Notes from the Clergy
Thanks to all of you who prayed for, attended or helped in the Ordination of Deacon Joe Kim. He is grateful to all of you. Thank You for your support of the Friary Building Fund. During the month of January, we collected almost $12,000 toward our goal of $150,000. Thank you very much for helping. We can and will do this together as a parish. Last Friday, we moved out of the Friary, the home of the Friars for the last 52 years. We have much to remember and be grateful for. We are living at the corner of Prospect and Massey and hope to return in six months.
Remember next week is our Ministry Fair after each of the Masses. Please stop in the Hall and look around. You might discover a way to share your talents with our parish. OLG is a great parish because of the many wonderful people who share their time and talents. Please consider what you might do to help build up our Parish. We need you.

Do you remember Fiesta 2009? It was a HUGE success, and we all had a great time, but….do you remember Fr. Ray running around on the weekend of Fiesta trying to sell remaining 700 Club Tickets? Well, that is not going to happen this year. Let’s all get our numbers now!!!! Applications are available at the back of the church or in the parish office. There is also an explanation on the back of the application on how 700 Club works. This year’s Fiesta is April 30, May 1, & 2. That gives us exactly 3 months to sell all of the tickets. WE CAN DO IT!!!!! Call Jodi at the parish office for questions or if you would like an application form mailed to you.

OLG School Presents the 1st Annual Kelly Hales Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Lakewood Country Club and chaired by Professional Golfer, Danielle Ammaccapane, member of the LPGA.
When: Friday, February 26th, 2010 12:15PM Shotgun starts

Fee: $195 (includes 18 holes, box lunch, gift bag, dinner*** (sitdown), prizes, and a silent auction) ***Dinner-Only available for $45 for those who wish not to participate in the Golf Tournament

Proceeds from this event will benefit the OLG Computer Lab and Scholarship Program. The computers need to be updated for our children to have every opportunity to succeed. Academically, the school has achieved top scores and great success in the academic decathlon, consistently receiving medals in Literature, Fine Arts and Social Studies. However, we lack the funds to sustain these critical programs. This is the School’s largest program fundraiser, so please enjoy some golf and support our school.
The Kelly Hales Memorial Golf Tournament also pays tribute to a great PTC past president and parish family member who recently and tragically lost his life serving his community. This is your chance to participate in this exciting and rewarding event.

A big thank you to all the sponsors, confirmation students, jr. high students and parent volunteers who helped make Snow Day such a great success. A special thanks to Tiss Coyne, Snow Day chair and her committee which included the PTC Board, Frank Huizar, Peter Seto and Stacey Ashenfelter. This event brought a lot of families from around the community and beyond who had never been to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

OLG School Updates
Our Lady of Guadalupe school offers a solid academic education in a caring Catholic environment for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Most graduates attend local Catholic High Schools and go on to College. We currently enroll approximately 171 students. Before and After School Care is available at a reasonable cost for working parents. We have After School Sports Programs for junior high students. The year 2010 brings our celebration of Lent to begin on February 17, 2010. The Mysteries of Easter will be celebrated on April 4, 2010. The Archdiocese mandates that all people who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools must undergo child abuse prevention training through the VIRTUS program. The training details five steps to prevent child sexual abuse. 1) Know the warning signs of an inappropriate relationship with a child. 2) Control access to children by carefully selecting the adults who work with children and youth. 3) Monitor all programs for the safety of children and youth. 4) Be aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the lives of children. 5) Communicate concerns to the appropriate person in authority. Through the sacraments Jesus continues to feed us, forgive us and heal us just as he did the people in Gospel times. Jesus continues to reach out and touch people, just as he reached out and touched them when he walked the dusty road of Galilee. Just as Jesus acted through the earthly actions of his physical body in Gospel times, so he acts in our times through the sacramental actions of his mystical body, the Church. This past year our parish community grew in wonderful ways as a result of the celebrations of our sacraments. In 2009, we celebrated:
“You are mine do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name. Come and follow me, I will bring you home: I love you and you are mine.” Within these words we are reminded of the 21 who died, and of the promise Jesus gave us of eternal life, brought to be with God. We would at this time like to officially welcome 137 families who have joined the community of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 2009. May God continue to bless us as we prepare to see Jesus’ continuing presence in us in the year 2010!

OLG Ministry Fair with the holidays comes the annual list of New Year’s Resolutions. This year why not add: “Get more involved at Church” to your list! You will not regret it. Offer your time and talent to our parish and you will be rewarded indeed. Watch the bulletin over the next few weeks for ideas of how you can become involved. Then make a commitment to attend the Ministry Fair on the weekend of February 13-14. There you will discover a number of opportunities where you can fit in. Looking forward to seeing you at the Fair! Here are a few more ministries for you to consider:
Bereavement- The Bereavement Reception Ministry is in need of a chair-person. If you are willing to assists families in funeral planning and to organize a reception in the hall following a funeral, please speak to Jodi Scully in the Parish Office and stop by the Ministry Fair for more information. It is a beautiful way to help fellow parishioners when they need it most. A committee of volunteers is already in place but we are in search of a chairperson. Could you spare a few hours a month to provide comfort to others?
Lectors - If you are thinking about getting involved at church but your time is limited consider becoming a lector. To proclaim God’s own words through the words of the scripture, to understand that the Word of God is not merely read; it is proclaimed, these are the ideals of a Lector. OLG Lectors strive to deliver the message of weekly readings with clarity, conviction and appropriate pace. After a brief training session, Lectors are listed on a schedule and your time commitment to the ministry is limited to the time you are already spending at Mass. Your talent is what we need in this ministry. Please find out more information at the Ministry Fair.
Respect Life - The Respect Life Committee at OLG works to protect human life in all it’s wondrous stages, from conception to natural death. We support life-affirming events, sharing informational material regarding the sacredness of life to the public, and praying for the protection, of the unborn. This ministry becomes more vital in our ever-changing world. Please join us in this very important work. Stop by the Ministry Fair to learn more about us and how you can be part of the movement to protect innocent lives.
