Read Across America 2015 (743.5 KB)
To the wonderful staff of Our Lady of Guadalupe,
I came across your website and promotion of NEA’s Read Across America celebrations and Read Across America week and i can’t tell you how pleased and excited i was to see this in particular.
you see, I’m one of the team that created Read Across America for the NEA and wrote “You’re Never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child,” and i have been national coordinator for the nearly 20 years it has been going strong.
I was excited to see this because i grew up in Redondo Beach and Our Lady of Guadalupe was our family church. My late parents Catalino & Mary Merina began taking us to Our Lady when we moved to California in the 1960’s. We had their funeral services there. My wedding was there in 1986 and so was the wedding of my younger sister Vicky years earlier. I have so many fond memories of church there and the wonderful pastors and Our Lady holds a special place in my heart. Have a wonderful wonderful event and i’ll send along some Read Across America goodies for you. Bless you always, Anita
