Solemn Return of the Eucharist
General Parish News
Written by Parish Office
Friday, 31 October 2008

Many thanks to those that were involved with setting up the church for our very first mass! It was a beautiful celebration and we are glad to see that many have made it that evening. Special thanks to the First Communicants who brought the gifts up to the altar. Special thanks to Jean Schettler, the artist who painted our Blue Cross, Allen Fang and Paul and Maria Reis of John Paul’s Designs for their generosity. And of course, thank you for your dedication and generosity for bringing this remodel close to completion.

Thanks to Joe Carson and Chris Barnes for taking that evening's photos. Please view them here.

A Letter from Fr. Ray
Notes from the Clergy
Written by Rev. Raymond Mallett, OFM Conv.
Saturday, 01 November 2008

As we celebrate the Feast of All Souls in our newly remodeled Church, let us give thanks and remember the many people who have gone before us and who are responsible for the formation of Our lady of Guadalupe Parish.  People, who proceeded us, at least most of them, built this parish and built our Church building.  Both were built upon many sacrifices because of a common desire to have a home for our common faith and to give honor to Our Blessed Lady, under the patronage of  Our Lady of Guadalupe.

We have so much to be grateful for and so much to pray for.  Please pray for all your friends and family who have died.  Be sure to name each by name and raise them up to God.  As we pray for those who have died, we have the assurance through our communion of Saints that they in turn are praying for us.  Be sure to pray for them.

In much of Latin America, this day is known as the Dia de los Muertos.  Traditionally this a day to visit cemeteries.  When I lived in Central America, families would visit their loved ones graves, pray for them, clean their graves and share a meal.  This was a day of faith and of memories.  May it be the same in each of our lives.

Congratulations to OLG's volunteers!

The Book of the Dead
General Parish News
Written by Parish Office
Saturday, 01 November 2008

ImageThe Book of the Dead is in the center of our parish worship place during the Novena for All Souls Day.  Please take a moment and look through the book.  This book reminds us all to pray for those who have gone home to the Father before us.  November is the month of the faithful departed.  Life, safety, and happiness with Christ are the blessings we beg from God as we pray for the departed.  It is “a...hold and wholesome thought to pray for the dead…” (2Mac 12:45).  The Letter to the Ephesians affirms that these blessings also come to us, the living.”…”You are the light in the Lord.  Live as children of Light” (Eph 5:8).  In the Light we find every kind of goodness and truth, this is our prayer for all the faithful departed and for ourselves as well.  Eternal rest grant unto them O’ Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.  Amen.

A Parish Moment

Scripture of the Moment

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

- 1 Corinthians 15:19-22
