Labor Day
General Parish News
Written by Parish Office
Saturday, 30 August 2008

Labor DayLabor Day; a day to rest and give thanks for the ability to work for the glory of God. This is a definition that has really fell into disuse. For many, Labor Day is just like any other day. It is a day to work and continue to work, and for many reasons. It is good to rest. This day that we celebrate tomorrow, is a day to rest and enjoy the company of those that God has given to each of us. If you cannot take the day and rest, then perhaps it would be good to reflect and see if our lives are out of balance. Each of us needs to pray, work, and rest. This is what God calls us to do each day. Labor Day is the last day of the summer season -- "the season to rest". For the next nine months will bring us other seasons, seasons that demand our constant attention and work. If possible, take time tomorrow and rest and see the fruits of your labor.

Respect for Life - Meeting in September
Ministry News
Written by Ric McConnell
Saturday, 30 August 2008

Please Pray for the Pro Life Movement. As in Mark's Gospel we are sometimes deaf to what Jesus is trying to tell us. Or we hear the message so often we "tune out" or think it isn't meant for us. This is especially true of pro-life issues that do not seem to directly affect our own family. Since we cannot always isolate our children from a culture that trivializes the sanctity of marriage and true family values, we must find other ways to stop their false messages from taking root in our own community. "To defend and promote life, to show reverence and love for it, is a task which God entrust to every human, calling us in his living image to share in his own lordship over the world." (Pope John Paul II)

Join us, as we return from the summer, September 11th at 7PM at the Parish office.

Some of you may have noticed a new face here at our parish, and many of you have already met me. I would like to let you know a few things about me. I was born and raised when Vietnam was experiencing war and famine, so survival was the big concern for my entire family since my father had been put in a prison which the Vietnamese Communists called "The Re-educational Camp." While my father was imprisoned, my mom worked very hard to support our whole family. She has been a devout, kind, and compassionate woman. Although she was busy working hard, she never forgot to instruct me to love God and the people who were in the same
situation as my family.

He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
