A Letter from Pope Benedict XVI
General Parish News
Written by Parish Office
Saturday, 28 June 2008

Pope Benedict XVIBeginning on June 29, 2008 - the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul - the Church throughout the world will observe a year dedicated to the Apostle Paul. Catholics and Orthodox, and Christians of many other denominations as well, will mark this special year - the second millennium of the apostle's birth - by reflecting on his words, seeking his intercession, and following the ancient pilgrim way that leads to the great Basilica which rises above the tomb of the apostle, just outside the ancient walls of Rome. In proclaiming the Pauline Year, Pope Benedict XVI said:

Fr. Tuan (right) with Friar JamesLate last May, I wrote you about Fr. Tuan (pictured, with Friar James), a young priest friar from our Province who is establishing a new Religious House (Novitiate) in Vietnam. He needs financial help to buy some of the needed items for our seminarians.

We would very much appreciate your help. Donations can be made through our "St. Anthony - Food for the Poor Box" or you can place it in an envelope and mark it "Mission in Vietnam".

Thank you and God Bless you!

Fourth of July
General Parish News
Written by Parish Office
Saturday, 28 June 2008

ImageOn Friday we celebrate Independence Day. This is a day in which we give thanks to Almighty God for the freedom of the United States of America. We are reminded that the United States of America was founded on the premise of the ability to practice one’s religion. The practice of spreading the Good News of Jesus is most primary to our country. The right to practice the Roman Catholic Faith is guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Please take time on Monday to celebrate that right and to invite others to come and celebrate Eucharist with us. We Catholics have a religion that supports us in our lives as citizens of the United States. May we be good Catholic citizens in what we say and do. Happy 4th of July!

Divine Mercy Billboard Campaign
General Parish News
Written by Parish Office
Saturday, 28 June 2008

After 2 summers of having the Divine Mercy billboard on PCH in South Redondo, I thought we may do it again in a few years. I was surprised that several donors and supporters came forward before I really was ready to do it again. So, here we are again! I am asking for donations and prayers to help with the expense. The 8-week billboard, cell phone and postage will run almost $6,000.00. I already have raised about $1600.00 as of June 18th. I signed the contract with Clear Channel and need to let people know. Any donation is accepted and appreciated. Those who cannot donate at this time, please pray that this billboard will touch the hearts of those driving on Artesia. St. Faustina wrote that we should share the message to any and all about Divine Mercy. The Artesia Blvd. sign is between Aviation and Hawthorne. When you are going toward the beach, the sign is in clear view. Please make any checks payable to St. James-Divine Mercy. Any questions or concerns please contact Dean Campazzi at (310) 372-5182.

Scripture of the Moment

13) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14) John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15) But Jesus answered him, " Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. 16) And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; 17) and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

- Matthew 3:13-17
